access to
finance
Over one-quarter of Private
sector Chief Executives rated
access to finance as among their
top three to five challenges.
Market conditions are making it
particularly difficult for businesses
to grow, with access to finance at the
heart of these difficulties. Both local
and overseas shareholders are displaying
a “low appetite for risks associated
with business and strategy”, with some
overseas investors being deterred by
certain aspects of industry regulations;
and banks are freezing funding.

As a Public sector organisation
we need to balance our
mission / purpose with the
financial sustainability of
our organisation.

The government’s drive to get into
budget surplus and the consequential
cuts in government spending are
having an effect across the Public and
Not-For-Profit sectors. In government
departments there is simply no funding
for a number of activities, and Not-
For-Profit organisations that rely on
government funding have seen no
increases for five years or more, and are
now finding it challenging to be viable.
Many charities are struggling for funding
the economy has affected charitable
donations and sponsorships, and
government funding is on hold.
